The Soundtrack of My Youth, Live at Last
Dear younger me,
I know how much you dreamed of this,
Standing in a crowd, surrounded by
people like you, who knew all the lyrics, watching the band that meant so much
to you perform right in front of your eyes.
I know how badly you wanted to be
there back in time.
2008, you were a sophomore in high school, the age of self-discovery. You've heard about the news, a band was coming to your country. And it was more than just a band; you know it was a part of who you are. Their music
became the soundtrack of your teenage years, the songs you played when you were
happy, the songs that carried you when it felt heavy, and the songs that
helped you survive the moments you didn't know how to handle.
They were there for you through the darkest
parts of growing up.
When you felt alone, and emotions were
too big, when you were trying to figure out your identity, their music gave you
the answer. You carried their songs with you, and all these years later, you
still do.
You probably haven’t realized it, but
the band you loved so much has shaped your entire relationship with music.
Because of them you have discovered so many incredible artists, found
bands that became your favorites, songs that became memories, and a whole world of
music that will stick with you for the rest of your life.
Your taste in music will grow, you
will know many different genres, but the foundation always
stays – and you have built a solid one at that.
It will always start with My Chemical
Romance.
You wondered why you couldn't just go
see them like all the others, your teenage anguish made you feel left out and small; it felt unfair that something you wanted so badly was so out of
reach.
But you see, you never asked your parents to buy
the tickets in the first place; not because you didn't love the band enough, not because you're scared to ask, but because you
understood that a concert wasn't a necessity at that time, you knew it wasn’t a
priority, and that you appreciate everything they provided for you, and you
didn't want to ask for something that only benefits you. You were young, but
you knew how to be grateful for what you already have.
Because of that you promised yourself that one day, like the others, you will see them, in person, in flesh.
And you know what? You didn't miss your chance.
You just had to wait until WE could
make it happen.
Now we're 32.
Life looks different. We grew up and
entered adulthood, we built a life where we can finally say yes to the things
we only once dreamed about.
We even found our way into concert
production as a side hustle, can you believe that? The person who once watched
concerts from her phone screen now helps create the experiences that bring
people together. We've been in venues, watching some of our favorite bands
perform, and experienced moments you would have thought were impossible.
But there was always one thing
missing.
As I reached this age, I told myself that I wouldn't be able
to forgive us if we never got to see our favorite band live, we will never get to
go back to our roots and what was once our identity - we will be incomplete.
Because I want our promise to become
reality, I bought a ticket.
Not because I needed to prove
anything, not because it was just another concert I get to experience, I bought
it because I wanted to give you this moment, to honor the dream you swore you
will get once you can.
I want you to know that all those
years of listening, hoping, and imagining weren't meaningless, that the songs that carried you through the hardest days would eventually lead us here.
You will be so proud of us.
You will be proud that we can finally make
this happen, proud that we can now make choices for ourselves, and proud that
we never stopped loving the things that brought us comfort when we needed it
most.
This ticket is more than just an expensive
purchase.
It is a promise kept; it is a reminder
that sometimes the dreams we have as kids never disappear - they wait for us
until we're ready to receive them.
There may be more concerts, more
experiences, more things we will get to enjoy in the coming months and years,
But this one will always be special.
We are crossing out one of the biggest
item on the list of things we promised we will do someday.
So thank you for loving this band so
deeply. Thank you for carrying their songs with us. Thank you for holding onto
a dream even when it felt impossible.
The wait is over, this one is for you.
We're finally going to see My Chemical Romance live.
Love,
Your 32-year-old self.

Whoa I’m so happy and excited for you!!! Say hi to Gerald for me!
