Davao’s Undying Heritage Showcased at Kadayawan Festival

Miss Universe PH 2024 Chelsea Manalo joins PLDT Home at Kadayawan 2024

 

A gathering for the senses, Davao City’s “King of Festivals” is a paradise for everyone, Powered by PLDT Home, The Kadayawan Festival, now on it’s 39^th year, has been showcasing the City’s local culture and heritage to tourists and content creators alike.

Kadayawan Festival gives visitors a taste of the beautiful visuals, sounds, and palates of the region. Celebrated from August 7^th to 18^th of every year, the festival features the 11 Indigenous Groups of Davao; Obu Manobo, Tagabawa-Bagobo, Maranao, Sama, Ata, Tausug, Bagobo, Iranun, Kagan, Matigsalug, and Maguindanawon. Indeed, a celebration of the region’s bountiful harvest.

In partnership with PLDT Home, one of the highly-anticipated events in the festival’s lineup is the Hiyas ng Kadayawan pageant. A truly unique pageant in search of a modern Davaoeña who embodies the essence of a true role model.

On August 16, PLDT Home presented the title “Hiyas ng PLDT” to Jane Rose Miones, a representative of the Bagobo-Plata tribe at the Hiyas ng Kadayawan pageant. Participated by young and accomplished women from the 11 tribes, the pageant showcases the talents and colors of their groups – such as singkil of the Maranao people.

Last August 17, Miss Universe Philippines 2024, Miss Chelsea Manalo, graced the media luncheon to highlight what PLDT Home has exciting things to offer this Kadayawan Festival. Manalo presented PLDT Home’s Kadayawan sale where up to Php3,600.00 discount can be given to new Fiber Unli Plan 1399 subscribers for the month of August. Making the streets come alive with their sounds and rhythmic movements. Truly a culmination of the Davaoeños’ thanksgiving for the bounty nature has bestowed upon, and the culture of their people.

Davao’s culinary scene is not left behind for these festivities. The festival offers the gustatory experience to the tourists and locals as well. From what some considers eccentric down to the delights, Kadayawan offers a feast of tastes through their wide variety of food, from durian to pomelo, to their plump seafoods, down to the fresh produce, even the sporadic dishes such as crocodile sisig , and the crowd-favorite inihaw na tuna panga. Coffee lovers also has their celebration as they enjoy local coffee and chocolates from local farms and processors.
