Saw Something Extreme at EuroXtreme!
Hi! Near Here! Have you been to a circus?
I have been to local ones and I've always wanted to see more.
I can't exactly remember how old I was when I first saw acrobats and contortionists, but I know it was quite some time now.
I was really glad when I knew that there is going to be a circus show happening in Davao just right before the Kadayawan celebrations. I was glad because I will be once again be able to celebrate my inner child as I've always wanted to be a contortionist but I never got to be one, so I love seeing them in television and in videos, and having this circus perform in my city means I get to see contortionists in real life once again.
Skipping to the show day, there was a bit of delay and moving from one day to another but when the show finally started, I was in awe. I remembered how it felt to line up for popcorns and candy floss. I have always hated lining up for food, but this time, even though the line was long, I did look forward into getting my hands on those popcorn cups and candy floss sticks, because the experience won't be complete without carnival food, so I line up to get them.I finally got my carnival food and the next thing I know is that it's finally showtime!
The show started with dancers dancing and a singer singing The Greatest Showman's OST, and then the dancers waved different countries' flags signifying both the places they're from as the performers came from different countries in Europe, and they will be going to different countries after the Philippines. Then a clumsy funny Jester named Jeopardy appeared and entertained the audience as the first acts prepare for their stunt.
The first act was the Wheel of Death where two performers went to what seemed to be huge hamster wheels, it was scary to look at especially if you have fear of heights! Then, one of them started walking ON TOP OF THE WHEEL which made the crowd gasp for air, the next thing we saw was the one outside the wheel was doing his stunt with a blind mask on. It was a cool and scary performance.
Next act was three BMX Riders Jumping and cycling on stage and tumbling as they rode their bikes. This part of the show was kind of a little boring to me - don't get me wrong, they were amazing, it's just that I know people who perform those tricks well too, and I've seen them a couple of times so it was something old to me, there wasn't a wow factor anymore. shucks, I feel bad saying that but that's how I felt during the performance. But nonetheless, they performed really well and they all looked so cool while doing so.
Third act was kind of lighthearted and a funny one! The Show Master went onstage and looked for volunteers for the knife trick. You know, that trick where the performer would throw knives towards the unsuspecting volunteer - yes, that exactly... was a trick! It was fun, I almost peed myself looking at the volunteer's reaction.
Aside from the knife trick, the showmaster also went to look out for more volunteers for the bell show. But I won't say much about it so not to spoil this part because it was one of the most fun non-stunt performances.
Fourth act, Cezar Magician, I believe he is the leader of this pack. I call him The Avatar, because he sort of played with different elements. The first was the Fire blowing, then he went on to cage himself inside an aquarium and did and escape stunt! HE WAS AMAZING! As well as his stunt partner. It was anxiety-inducing stunt as it involved caged and water, and they both did really well. Probably one of my favorite part of the show - oh and did I say that his stunt partner is a contortionist?!! Holy Moly i gained another girl crush tonight! She was so beautiful and cool! Cezar's last stunt is another escape stunt where he is suspended in a tight psychward-ish apparel, roped up and tied upside down - and the ropes holding him were burning! He managed to escape given a very short time before the last rope falls. There he is, the avatar. Iykwim.
There was a short break after Cezar's act. So we went out to get more food and water.
After the break came the Trapeze performance. It was fckin exciting to see! I was jaw dropped and gasp as one trapeze artist jump from one handlebar to another and to hold on to his fellow trapeze. It was one of the highlights for me. But the best part was the Aerial Silk Performer. SHE WAS GORGEOUS!!! Another girl crush. And she went so high up for her performance it was scary to watch! She was so graceful even when tumbling through her silk curtain. I was thinking to myself I would be scared to try to do what she does because the fear of heights and falling down I have could never! Overall, these two acts were my most favorite. Because they show the lengths the human body can go with training.
